Stori's supported housing boost for Colwyn Bay residents

Stori has opened nine new low-level supported housing flats in Colwyn Bay, offering an important route into independent living for people moving on from homelessness.

The new development, delivered in partnership with a local developer, forms part of Stori’s wider commitment to increasing the availability of safe and stable housing for those most in need across Conwy County.

The flats are designed as a stepping stone for individuals who no longer require intensive support, but who would still benefit from light-touch help as they rebuild their lives and move towards long-term independence.

Assisted and supported housing plays a key role in Conwy’s approach to tackling homelessness, helping people transition smoothly from temporary or emergency accommodation into secure homes of their own. Schemes like this can reduce the risk of repeat homelessness by providing not only a safe place to live, but also the practical guidance many people need to sustain a tenancy.

Working closely with Conwy County Borough Council, Stori will support residents as they settle into their new homes. This includes help with budgeting, tenancy management, wellbeing, community connection and everyday life skills — all aimed at building confidence and supporting people to maintain stable, independent lives.

The development reflects a shared ambition between Stori and Conwy Council to ensure people receive the right support at the right time, strengthening housing options for vulnerable residents and easing pressure on homelessness services across the county.

Andrew Jones, Stori’s Director of Development, said: “This scheme shows what’s possible when we work in partnership to create the right homes and support for people moving on from homelessness, helping individuals move forward with greater stability and confidence.”

Conwy’s Cabinet Member for Housing, Councillor Stephen Price, welcomed the opening of the flats, calling them “a real step forward in providing safe, secure, and supportive homes for some of those in our community who need it most.”

The scheme is now welcoming its first residents, marking a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen supported housing provision and improve pathways out of homelessness across the region.
