Strikes at Welsh defence manufacturer Qioptiq Teledyne have been suspended after the company tabled a new and improved pay offer, with workers now set to vote on the deal.
The move comes after industrial action had been planned to begin tomorrow (16 June) at the Denbighshire-based high-tech optics factory, following a long-running dispute over pay. The action has now been called off temporarily while members consider the revised proposal.
The dispute had centred on pay levels and ongoing negotiations between management and union representatives, with workers previously indicating their willingness to take strike action if no acceptable offer was made. The suspension marks a pause in escalation while talks and the ballot process continue.
Further industrial action has not been ruled out and could still take place at later dates depending on the outcome of the vote.
Unite regional officer Jono Davies said:
“As a gesture of goodwill, Unite has suspended its planned industrial action at Qioptiq while our members vote on a new pay offer.”
Workers at the Denbighshire site will now be asked to decide whether the improved offer is sufficient to resolve the dispute or whether further action will be required.
