Public meeting on rail safety in Pensarn and Belgrano

Welsh Conservative Leader and Clwyd West MS Darren Millar is urging people to attend a public meeting next month to learn about the plans to replace level crossings in Pensarn and Belgrano with a bridge.

Network Rail and Transport for Wales aim to increase services and capacity on the North Wales coast, leading to the closure of two level crossings for safety reasons.

To protect the public from the risks, they plan to permanently close the two level crossings, Pen Uchaf and Ty Gwyn, and construct a safer alternative way to cross over the railway.

The designs have been modified to take on board feedback from drop-in sessions with residents as well as engagement with other community bodies.

Network Rail are now set to hold a public meeting to give people a further opportunity to find out more about the works.

This will take place at the Peacock Lounge, Ty Gwyn Caravan Park, on Wednesday September 3rd between 3.30 and 6.30pm.

Mr. Millar, who has long called for safety improvements at the crossings, is encouraging people to attend the meeting.

He said: “The level crossings are well used by locals and holidaymakers but are a real danger and in 2019 there were sadly two fatalities on the Ty Gwyn crossing, so I am pleased that they are finally being replaced with a safer crossing.

“Network Rail have done a great job of consulting with the local community over the plans and this public meeting is a further extension of that consultation process.

“The meeting is an opportunity to find out more about what is planned, when the works will get underway and the disruption it will cause. I encourage people to attend and put their questions to Network Rail.

“For those unable to attend, further information on the proposed works can be found at  https://www.networkrail.co.uk/running-the-railway/our-routes/wales/pensarn-level-crossings/”.
