Young people considering their career options and people looking for a change of direction are being invited to discover the wide range of careers available in cancer services at an open day in Bodelwyddan.
The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital will open its doors to the public on Sunday, September 27, from 10am until 3pm.
The event is aimed particularly at pupils in Years 11, 12 and 13, as well as anyone considering a career change, and will showcase the variety of jobs involved in delivering cancer treatment and supporting patients.
Visitors will be able to meet healthcare professionals working at the centre, including radiographers, specialist nurses, oncologists, pharmacists and scientists, as well as people working in administrative and other support roles.
Representatives from Llandrillo College, Cardiff University, Bangor University and Wrexham University will also be available to discuss study and training routes into healthcare.
Careers on offer range from therapeutic radiography and specialist chemotherapy nursing to medical physics, cancer pharmacy, oncology and administration. Allied health professionals including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and speech and language therapists will also be represented.
Emma Tracey, a radiographer at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre, said the team hoped the event would encourage local people to consider a future in healthcare.
“Cancer Services is an ever-changing, dynamic work environment where teamwork and innovation are key,” she said.
“We hope this event will inspire people in our community to consider a future in healthcare – perhaps even becoming the next radiographers, oncologists or specialist nurses here at NWCTC.”
The centre says the open day will provide an opportunity to see how science, technology, patient care and support services come together in modern cancer treatment.
