The combined efforts of Llandudno RNLI crews and emergency service colleagues have been praised following a major rescue operation off the Great Orme in which a motorcyclist sadly lost their life.

Both of the town's lifeboats were launched on Thursday, 29 October, after reports that a motorcyclist had left the road and entered the water at Pen Trwyn.

Responding at the request of HM Coastguard, the inshore lifeboat and all-weather lifeboat reached the scene within around five minutes of launching.

The rescue brought together different emergency response teams, with casualty care beginning immediately. A paramedic from the search and rescue helicopter was lowered onto the all-weather lifeboat to help those already working at the scene.

Despite the considerable efforts of everyone involved, the casualty could not be saved.

Geoff Cowen, Llandudno RNLI Launch Authority, praised the teamwork, cooperation and determination shown throughout the incident.

He said: "This was an incredibly difficult incident for everyone. I cannot speak highly enough of the teamwork, cooperation and determination shown by all involved.

"Our thoughts are very much with the casualty’s family and friends, who have suffered a devastating loss."

Llandudno RNLI has also extended its heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of the casualty following the incident.
