Rent Smart Wales and Natural Resources Wales have teamed up to offer a new Flood Management training for landlords and agents in Wales, free of charge on the Rent Smart Wales website.
The training aims to help participants understand how to manage properties at risk of flooding and prepare for such emergencies.
By completing the course, landlords and agents can earn 10 CPD points towards their Rent Smart Wales licence renewal application.
With 1 in 7 homes and businesses in Wales at risk of flooding, and with the climate emergency bringing more extreme weather, it is more important than ever that people know and understand their flood risk.
Natural Resources Wales’s Flood Community Engagement and Resilience team has been working with Rent Smart Wales to design and deliver an online course for landlords and agents in Wales, to help them understand how to manage property at risk of flooding.
It is hoped the training will offer advice and guidance on how to prepare for flooding and mitigate the impact on people’s homes, livelihoods and communities.
Anne Rowland, Group Leader at Rent Smart Wales, said: “We are currently focusing on providing a wide range of CPD courses on subjects of interest to landlords and agents, to assist people to meet their training requirements for licence renewal.
"Collaborating with Natural Resources Wales on this course has been really valuable.”
The collaboration with Rent Smart Wales is part of NRW’s wider effort to work with partners to build resilient communities across Wales.
Kelly McLauchlan, Lead Specialist Advisor - Community Engagement and Resilience for Natural Resources Wales, said: “Flooding can devastate homes, disrupt livelihoods, and leave lasting impacts on mental health and wellbeing.
“With so many rental properties in Wales, it’s vital that landlords and agents understand if their properties are at risk of flooding, and what their responsibilities to tenants are.
“We’ve really valued working with Rent Smart Wales. Their insight into the private rental sector and how best to reach it has been invaluable in helping us turn technical guidance into a clear, practical online course.
“We hope this will support more landlords, agents, and ultimately tenants across Wales to understand flood risk and take steps to prepare.”
