A 64-year-old man from Nant Peris has been jailed for three years after admitting a series of offences involving indecent images of children and attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.
Elwyn Jones appeared for sentencing at Caernarfon Crown Court on September 4.
Jones had previously pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child, distributing an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of a child and three counts of making indecent photographs or pseudo-photographs of a child.
He also admitted possessing extreme pornography and a prohibited image of a child.
Jones was sentenced to three years in prison.
He has also been made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, placing restrictions on his behaviour following his release.
He will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Constable Megan Roberts said Jones had “proved himself to be a danger to children” by attempting sexualised communication with a young girl.
She said it was fortunate that, in this case, the online profile was being operated as a decoy and that no child became a victim of his behaviour.
Detective Constable Roberts added that North Wales Police remained committed to protecting young people from those who attempt to abuse them.
Police are encouraging anyone with concerns about online child sexual exploitation to report information to them. Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers or to a relevant support agency.
