A woman has died following a serious collision on the A55 in Conwy.
North Wales Police said officers were called at around midday today to reports of a two-vehicle crash on the westbound carriageway at Junction 17, Conwy Morfa. The collision involved a heavy goods vehicle and a car.
Emergency services attended the scene, but despite their efforts, a woman in her 40s who was travelling in the car was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed that two people were airlifted to hospitals in Stoke and Aintree with serious injuries, while a third person was taken by ambulance to Aintree Hospital. All four people were travelling in the same car.
The driver of the HGV is assisting officers with their enquiries.
The incident caused major disruption on the A55, with the westbound carriageway closed for several hours. North Wales Police said the closure has now been partially lifted, with a single lane of traffic flowing from the Conwy Tunnel, exiting at Junction 17 before re-joining the carriageway.
Investigations are continuing at the scene, led by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said: “I share my deepest condolences with the woman’s family at this incredibly difficult time, and my thoughts are with all the others involved in this collision.
“I am asking anyone who witnessed the incident, or who may have relevant dash-cam footage, to come forward as soon as possible.”
