Welsh Mountain Zoo unveil snow leopard sculpture

An amazing new wooden snow leopard sculpture is now in place at the Welsh Mountain Zoo. Doubling up as a resting place and bench, it forms part of the Silk Road – Home of the Snow Leopard enclosure, which opened last year.

Local renowned sculptor and artist Edward Parkes was commissioned to create the stunning piece from Douglas Fir, donated by Simon Bellfield of The Oak Frame Company, based in St. Asaph.

Situated in the walk way viewing area within the grounds of the ‘Silk Road’ enclosure, the carved bench provides a wider vantage point to enjoy the animals, whilst creating a brilliant photo opportunity.

Charlotte Dykes at the Welsh Mountain Zoo commented: “It’s wonderful to have this piece in place.  It’s a fantastic likeness to the snow leopard and adds yet another focal point to our newest and most striking enclosure.

“We’d like to thank both Edward for crafting this masterpiece and Simon at the Oak Frame Company for donating the beautiful wood from which this has been lovingly crafted.”
