Pupils at a Denbighshire primary school are ready for a busy summer of sporting action after receiving a new set of sponsored sports shirts from leading Welsh manufacturer Ifor Williams Trailers.
The family-run company has provided the kit to Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy in Cynwyd, continuing a long-standing relationship between the school and the nearby business, whose factory is just a short walk away.
Many of the school’s pupils have family members working for the trailer manufacturer, while some current employees are former pupils themselves, helping to create strong ties between the company and the local community.
Headteacher Arwel Owen said the support would benefit children across a range of sporting activities throughout the year.
The school, which has around 115 pupils, regularly competes in football, athletics and netball events and was looking to replace its existing sports kit.
“We are very fortunate to have such a supportive business like Ifor Williams Trailers on our doorstep,” said Mr Owen.
“Lots of parents, uncles, aunties and grandparents work for the company, so there is a real sense of partnership. The children also visit the factory and gain an insight into future career opportunities, which is incredibly valuable.”
Mr Owen said around 30 kits had been provided in a range of sizes to ensure pupils from different year groups could take part in sporting events wearing the new colours.
The close connection between the school and the company extends beyond sponsorship, with pupils regularly visiting the factory to learn more about manufacturing and local employment opportunities.
Richard Bull, Group Head of Manufacturing at Ifor Williams Trailers, said the company was delighted to continue supporting the school.
“As a proudly Welsh home-grown company, supporting our communities is something that is very important to us,” he said.
“We have a strong relationship with Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy and when they approached us about sponsorship for the new kits, we were happy to help.
“There is a real local connection here. Some of our staff attended the school as children and many now have children attending the school themselves.”
The company has also supported other community projects in Cynwyd, including sponsorship of the village’s floral displays.
Pupils have already given the new kit their seal of approval.
Ten-year-old Osian Thomas said: “I think the new kit is great. I enjoy doing sport so it’s good to have a new kit to wear.”
Seven-year-old Jac Tudor added: “The new kit is good. It will be good to wear it. My favourite sport is football.”
The sponsorship ensures Ysgol Bro Dyfrdwy’s young athletes will be well equipped for a packed calendar of sporting events while further strengthening the bond between the school and one of North Wales’ best-known businesses.
