Two shoplifters jailed after North Wales £3K Spree

Two men have been jailed for shoplifting.

Luis Onea, 19, of no fixed abode, and Mircea Petrovici, 28, of no fixed abode, stole thousands of pounds worth of items on a shoplifting spree across Llandudno, Prestatyn and Rhyl on 5 June this year.

The pair began in Boots, Llandudno, where they stole beauty products worth almost £2,000, before stealing hundreds of pounds worth of clothes and suitcases from TK Maxx nearby.

Less than 30 minutes later, they visited Boots in Rhyl where they stole further cosmetic items before finishing their spree in Boots, Prestatyn where they took more than £1,300 worth of stock without any attempt to pay.

They were arrested nearby where some of the items were recovered, before all other stolen good were found in a car parked in the area.

They were subsequently charged and remanded into custody.

At Mold Crown Court today, Petrovici was handed a 28-week jail sentence, while Onea must serve 21 weeks.

District Inspector Ben Garnett said: “Retail theft is not a victimless crime and has a genuine impact on the businesses and staff affected by it.

“We hope this result will reassure local businesses and their customers that we take this type of offending seriously and will do everything we can to protect them from crime.”
