Everyone comes together for Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay

Once again the community spirit of Colwyn Bay, its people and the business community have come shining through in response to the terrible Covid-19 health crisis by producing much needed scrubs for our local hospital.

After a call was put out on Facebook by Mark Clemson from the Colwyn Bay Chamber of Trade, Scrubs Up Colwyn Bay quickly swung into action to begin coordinating the effort needed to make sanitary clothing for our local surgeons, nurses and physicians.

Within hours the group with huge assistance and support from TV producer Magwen Davis and Tracey Toulmin owner of the Bryn Woodlands House Guest House, begun a passionate mission to make the garments.

With the help of local people and the support from the business community, the Bay of Colwyn showed its colours as a truly caring, compassionate community.

Mark Clemson explained: "The response to the Facebook group has been beyond our wildest dreams and within two days we had amassed over 100 members and through a donation page raised over £1000 from local business and community for purchase of materials.

"The community of the Bay of Colwyn have been immense and we have now over 40 Machinists and cutters who will put the Scrubs garments together.

"We have other volunteers who will deliver said items to the various community health workers - supporting them - so they can protect us.

"Already theatre hats have been produced for nursing staff of the Covid Ward at Glan Clwyd Hospital and have been delivered for use. We also have orders of 60+ Scrubs from local community health teams and hopefully by next week we will be producing those items.

"This is about community pulling together and I can’t thank our volunteers enough for their time and kindness."
