A North Wales man living with terminal cancer has come up with an unusual way of raising money for the hospice which has supported him and his family throughout his illness.
Peter Davidson, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer in June 2022 and initially given six months to live, has launched a tongue-in-cheek 'naked' calendar featuring men from twelve local businesses.
The Cheeky Boys Calendar aims to raise vital funds for St David’s Hospice in Llandudno, which has provided Peter with care and support since he was introduced to its services through palliative care.
He has received physiotherapy and acupuncture to help manage his pain, while his wife has also been offered counselling and emotional support.
Peter said: "One of the first things the hospital did was introduce me through palliative care to St David’s Hospice, not just as a place to go and die but as a provider of all kinds of services to improve your journey getting there.
"I had physio and acupuncture to ease my pain, and more importantly my wife was offered counselling and emotional support if needed. The importance of this is quite often overlooked."
As he approaches the end of his treatment options, Peter wanted to find a way of giving something back to the hospice, which he knows may provide his care in the future.
He decided to produce the calendar, paying for the printing himself so that every penny raised from sales can go directly to St David’s Hospice.
Peter said: "As I approach my final battle, I was looking to make a donation to the hospice, knowing that is most probably where I will end up, to cover the cost of my final stay.
"I thought, how can we make my donation work to provide greater funds? Hence the Cheeky Boys Calendar, which I hope will put a smile on everyone’s face."
He also thanked the men who had agreed to take part, many of whom have had family members or friends cared for by the hospice.
The calendar was made possible thanks to twelve local North Wales businesses whose cheeky team members bravely posed for the project with staff members taking part in the calendar.
They include D Jones Plant Hire and Sales, M. Stuart Decorators, TJS Tree and Ground Care, Denbigh Plant Services, Jamie Seager Scaffolding Services, Leaf Health, C Lloyd Window Cleaning, Don't Move Improve, KT Electrical, Dragon Tiles, Spindrift Gas Heating Services and Llandudno Football Club.
The Cheeky Boys Calendar costs £9.95 and is available from the St David’s Hospice website, the hospice in Abbey Road, Llandudno, and its charity shops.
